Charlie Browns Diner – A Taste of the US in Eastbourne

Charlie Browns Diner – A Taste of the US in Eastbourne

On entering Charlie Brown’s, you will find it’s dark with lots of tiny lights in the ceiling which is not hard to work out is supposed to reflect the stars at night.  The walls are adorned with American photos, pictures, memorabilia and shelves and alcoves are filled with American nic-nacs.

I’ve visited Charlie Brown’s on many occasions, my first visit was less than exciting.  It is was a busy Saturday night and the staff were pushed to their limits.  We had waited a long time for service and an even longer time for our meal to come out.  On this occasion, the waitress wasn’t on best form, to say the least.

Once the meals did arrive I wasn’t disappointed.   Food is American style and American portions.  Every meal is served with a mountain of chips but you do have an alternative choice of a jacket potato if you prefer, together with grilled tomatoes, mushrooms and, usually, peas.

I have to say that this was the only time I’ve experienced a less than adequate service, since then I have visited many times and have always been thoroughly satisfied with the food, service and experience.  Since their move to larger premises, they have gone from strength to strength.  They pride themselves on being a family-run diner, providing freshly cooked food just the way you like it, and so that extra wait really is worth it.  The waitresses are courteous and friendly, despite being busy, they always have time for a chat.

The bill always comes accompanied with a handful of jelly babies.  As the meals are so plentiful, Charlie Brown’s is one of the most reasonably priced restaurants in Eastbourne, due to the fact that you don’t need a starter!

Charlie Brown’s is always busy at weekends and is advisable to book to avoid disappointment.  From a simple burger to ribs or steak, cooked to perfection, this is a great place to eat but make sure you’re hungry!!

Charlie Brown’s is popular with groups and birthday celebrations are always recognised by their signature tune of Stevie Wonder’s “Happy Birthday To You” and a birthday cake, if ordered in advance.

I have lost count the number of times I have been to charlie Browns over the years…. always held birthday celebrations there, work xmas do’s as well as romantic meals for me & my husband! The staff are so friendly Angela is lovely (she runs it) & always recognises not just me but other people who have eaten there before. The food…. well …. is fantastic with a variety menu to suit anyone from vegie to big steak lovers!!! The portion sizes are massive & if you have room (very rare I do!) the puddings are out of this world…my favourite being the banoffee pie!!! Certainly value for money & it is not expensive by any means. You need to book at weekends as it is so popular… go on try it once & im sure you will return time & time again!!! The last time i was there I was actually in labour with my son! Bev Atkins, Eastbourne

Found this diner not far from the hotel we were staying in. Nice surroundings and friendly staff. Wouldnt recommend getting a starter as the main course is more than substantial. We had the steak and the garlic and chilli chicken and they were delicious… as was the cream filled banana boat!!

I was hoping this one would be here! Cosy little restaurant, friendly, helpful staff, the one drawback was the smokers choking the atmosphere, but that shouldn’t be an issue now with smoking banned! Food is beatiful, my one hint

legend and is a must visit. Dont order a starter as the main courses are absolutely gigantic. The service is incredibly friendly but dont plan on going there for a quick bite as you will be there for ages. The menu has all the usual tex-mex and american fare youd
