Council workers patrol streets outside Eastbourne College
Council Officials have been patrolling the streets of Lower Meads, Eastbourne today which is feared to be the start of parking charges in the nearby streets.
Around ten workers from East Sussex County Council were monitoring parked cars in Blackwater Road and Grange Road (Tues 17 Nov). The group were seen to be walking the streets from 9am till 2pm taking details of the parked vehicles.
Residents are worried that the traffic survey could be aimed at introducing parking charges, which are already in place in nearby Grove Road and South Street. Blackwater Road is a popular spot for commuters who have been forced to park further out of town due to the charges.
East Sussex County Council told Eastboune Rocks; “The traffic surveys being carried out in Eastbourne are part of some work we are doing to look into the effects of the parking scheme on the town as a whole. This is background work ahead of a review of the scheme, which is due to get underway in the New Year.’
