Janet searches for old family friends

A 73-year-old woman is appealing for help in contacting old family friends who once lived in Eastbourne.

Janet Mills, who lives in Australia, is trying to contact relatives of Shirley and Eric Warner (published in paper article as Warren).

Janet knows their parents once lived at 1 Vicarage Lane in Eastbourne and that Eric migrated to Brisbane, Queensland.

Janet says she has tried to track down their relations but has had no success.

Anyone with information should email jimjemmills@hotmail.com.

In a letter published on a local news website, some of the details conflict, such as the surname of the people Janet is trying to find and the email address at which to contact her.  Please take this into account if you wish to contact Janet.

I am looking for any relatives of Eric and Shirley Warner, whose parents lived at 1 Vicarage Lane, Eastbourne.
They migrated to Brisbane, Australia, in the 60s, our parents were friends, and I wish to contact them, and Eric’s sister Jennifer.  I have tried to find them many times as I live in Adelaide.  Are there any relatives or friends in Eastbourne who can help me locate them?  My parents were Jerry and Doris Halls (nee Duly). – Janet Mills, 36 Sandow Crescent, Coromandel Valle, South Australia, 5051.

Are you looking for relatives or friends from a long time ago?  How would you start?

  • If you are local to the area, you could try and ask neighbours of the person you’re trying to find and see whether they have an information, such as forwarding address, contact number, etc.  Also try the local pubs or shops that they used to frequent.
  • Try the electoral role in the area and see whether they’re registered.  Also try the births, deaths and marriages, just in case.
  • Local telephone book.

If you’re not local to the area, live abroad or not readily mobile, there are a few other options and most of them involve using the internet:

  • Try the interactive social websites, such as Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, LinkedIn, Twitter, 123People, FriendsReunited.  Most of these sites will allow you to search for a name without registering.
  • Search for online archive sites.  There are a few but not many that allow you to do in depth searches without first registering or paying for their services.
  • Allow search engines to guide the way the way and provide suggestions and websites.
  • Write a letter to the local paper in which the person you’re looking for last resided.  Also try their old schools, hopefully someone will pick up on it, and even if you don’t find your friend, you could make another friend through the response.
  • Try and post a story or comment to a blog, forum or internet site in which the search robots will pick up on it and maybe make contact that way (this will not create an immediate result).
