Helping Charities

I love charity work and charity shops and, having done charity work myself in the past, I’m a great supporter of all the people who donate their time, money and efforts for the good causes of others.  Not only does it give you a great deal of satisfaction, but the knowledge that you’re helping to improve the lives of other people or raise awareness to their conditions, is a great bonus.

In these hard times, it’s great to see that time and trouble can still be invested to support others, so I’m appealing to the readers of Eastbourne Rocks! to advertise their charities and charity events here.

Here’s a taster of some of the goodwill goings on in Eastbourne.

Police dogs and their handlers are hoping to raise funds for Cancer Research by selling a Charity Calendar.  The pictures were mainly taken by dog handlers at a variety of locations, including the famous Eastbourne event 999 Display which takes place on the Western Lawns every year.  A target of £10,000 has been set, in which they are already half way there.  Priced at just £5 each, they are available at Eastbourne and Hailsham Police stations.

Probably the best Elvis concert since Elvis is coming to Eastbourne in November for a night of charity fund raising.

Marshall King, as the King of Rock and Rock, is dubbed as the best ‘Elvis impersonator in Britain’ by ITV comes to the Winter Garden on Saturday 7 November and is set to be a great event, supported by Eastbourne Operatic and Dramatic Society (EODS).

Marshall wears the exact replica tailored costumes which are copied stone for stone as the original, all custom made in the US with matching accessories, including sunglasses made by the King’s original optician.

Money raised from the night’s entertainment will go towards two Eastbourne based charities, The Sollomon Andal Trust and Eastbourne Fibromyalgia Support Group.

The show starts at 7.30pm.  Tickets cost £16.50 and £9.50 for children (aged 9-16).

The Sollomon Andal Trust was set up after ten-year-old Sollomon, an Eastbourne resident, was diagnosed with bone cancer in January 2008 and aims to raise £200,00 so Sollomon can be flown to America for treatment and to raise awareness of osteosarcoma, one of the hardest childhood bone cancers to treat.  [insert web address here]

Eastbourne Fibromyalgia Support Group offers support and information about the condition to suffered and those who care about them.  Fibro is a chronic illness that affects more than 1/5 million people in the UK.
